Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times late to seize a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the final seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
